THE BRAND

In Honour and Remembrance of the Courage of all Resistance Fighters in the 2nd World War

The Stauffenberg Cigars brand was created to commemorate a significant historical event with a high-quality premium cigar product and to support lasting remembrance of the resistance during and especially at the end of the Second World War.

The brand is not intended to glorify the conspirators around Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg who were involved in the Stauffenberg plot on Adolf Hitler on 20th July 1944, but rather to commemorate the general death-defying resistance against a cruel and totalitarian regime at that time. In addition to the well-known Stauffenberg assassination attempt, there were many other acts of resistance against the inhumane atrocities and power structures of the Third Reich. The Stauffenberg Cigars Brand should honour and remembrance the courage of all of these resistance fighters in the 2nd World War.

Today, the German Resistance Memorial Centre in Berlin is an impressive reminder of the various resistance groups, many of whom had to pay for their courage with their lives.

Much has been written and summarised in various books and documentary films about the lengthy preparation, planning and final execution of the Stauffenberg assassination attempt on 20 July 1944.

International historians and renowned authors such as Sophie von Bechtolsheim, Peter Hoffmann, Joachim Fest, Thomas Karlauf, Ruth Hoffmann and others have written impressive biographies about the Stauffenberg family and the personal background of Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg - as well as the motivation for the assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler.

By the middle of 1943, it was already clear that Germany would neither win the 2nd World War nor end it gracefully. Hundreds of thousands of victims were being counted every month on all fronts. The anti-semitic crimes and the atrocities in the prison camps on all sides were unbearable. There were also considerable casualties among the civilian population of all involved nations.

The main motivation of Count Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg, as well as his almost 200 close allies in politics and military, was to stop this senseless and inhumane course of the war and to steer developments towards the end of the Second World War in a new and controllable direction.

Even if Claus Graf von Stauffenberg and his conspirators had not yet rebelled against the totalitarian regime in the early years of the Second World War, they will always deserve great respect for their courage in defending themselves against a system based on fear and oppression that despised humanity. They all  consciously risked their lives in an attempt to bring an early end to the indescribable misery of millions of soldiers and their families, the civilian population and prisoners of war in the affected war zones.
